Your Therapist

Hello, my name is Karen Sedgwick, I have an Advance Diploma in Humanistic Integrative Counselling and a UKATA Diploma in Transactional Analysis (psychotherapy).

I have many years of experience helping clients reach a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationship with others.

I am a member of both the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and UKATA (UK Association for Transactional Analysis) and work within their ethical framework.

I believe the key to successful therapy is the relationship between the counsellor and client. A good relationship provides the solid and supportive foundation necessary to promote change and growth.

About Transactional Analysis
As a counsellor I primarily use Transactional Analysis as a framework to help clients better understand their relationships with others and themselves.
Transactional Analysis (TA) was founded by Eric Berne in the 1950's and is a widely recognised and accessible form of modern psychology.

Sessions will explore your thinking, feelings and behaviour and look at how these have been shaped by your past experience.

The goal is to help you regain autonomy over your life. Berne defines this autonomy as the recovery of three vital human capacities - spontaneity, awareness and intimacy.

At the heart of TA is the basic philosophy that:
People are OK, every individual has value and worth
Everyone has the capacity to think
People decide their own destiny and these decisions can be changed.
